In late 2020, educators and policymakers were questioning the usefulness of assessments in light of the pandemic and questions about the role of standardized exams in reproducing educational inequity. Podcasts

In Race, Space, and Urban Schools, my students create a podcast series about New York City public schools, the largest and most racially segregated school district in the United States. Tracing back to the practices of redlining and de jure and de facto segregation, they explore concepts of gentrification, race, and more contemporary issues such as the fomentation of charter schools, school testing, and tracking.

As an educator, I want my students to be able to see the connections between history, research, and their own experiences in schools to analyze current school debates about policy and practice. My classes are discussion-based, collaborative, and community-oriented.
